Contrary to claims that a new lawyer has taken over Nnamdi Kanu’s case, his brother, Prince Kanu has said otherwise.
Speaking to Naij.com, Prince said claims by some media reports that a new lawyer has taken over Nnamdi Kanu’s case is laughable.
He said: “My family has not appointed any other person to represent my brother, so where did people get that from? Vincent Obetta is the only lawyer and have always contacted to represent Nnamdi Kanu.”
On December 23, Kanu refused to take his plea before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja for lack of confidence in the court.
Mohammed on granting his objection stood down from the matter and remitted the case file to the chief judge of the high court. His case is currently scheduled to hold before an Abuja High Court on Monday, January 19.
Kanu, the director of Radio Biafra is currently being held by the State Security Services (SSS) over allegations of unlawful possession of firearms, assisting in the management of an unlawful society among others.
Kanu was arrested in Lagos upon his arrival from the United Kingdom. He has also been granted bails by three different courts, to which the SSS has flouted.
Recent reports about Kanu suggests that the SSS has plans to transfer him to the cell where Boko Haram suspects are kept.
Meanwhile, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo has also pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to release the Kanu to Igbo leaders, assuring that they would make him realize the futility of continuing his pro- Biafra stance.
