Barcelona Would Have Signed Aguero - Director

Andoni Zubizarreta, former Barcelona sporting director, has disclosed that the failure of the Catalan Giants in their bid to sign Sergio Aguero from Manchester City prompted them to go for  Luis Suarez.

Barcelona signed Suarez from Liverpool at the end of the 2013/2014 season in a deal worth £75million, but would have preferred to have Argentine forward Aguero.

“We had a few options. Our first choice was not Suarez — he knows this,” Zubizarreta said.

“In the winter, we tried to sign Aguero. But it didn’t come off.

“In this situation, there was no doubt: Luis Suarez became our only objective.”

Luis Suarez helped Barcelona to a treble last season and has scored 54 goals in 72 games for the Camp Nou based team.
